December 12,
2014
Dear
Parents,
The Kindergarten
through Grade 4 winter concerts yesterday were a great success. Over 700
parents, grandparents and family members came to watch the students perform as
well as the Grade 5 and 6 students at Elboya. This was a great opportunity for
each class to showcase their musical and performance abilities and they were
awesome. The concert yesterday concluded our major pre-Winterbreak activities
which were the Band Concert for Grades 5-9, the two school dances for Grades 5-6
and 7-9, and collecting food for the Calgary Interfaith Foodbank. Other in
school activities such as Ugly Sweater Day and Candy Grams continue till
Thursday, December 18th.
Elboya students under
the direction of Ms. Sawchuk's Grade 7-9 Homeroom, Mr. Hadder's Grade 5-6
homeroom and Ms. MacGillivray's Grade 1 class have been collecting for the Food
Band and the students have filled 16 very large Food Bank boxes of donations. I
would like to thank all students, parents and staff for their support of this
very worthwhile project.
On behalf of all of
the staff, we wish each student and their family an enjoyable Winter Break. See
you on Tuesday, January 6th, 2015 when school recommences.

Davis
Principal

HomeLogic
Home Logic will be
shutting down for parents temporarily as teachers prepare to work on report
cards. We will put information in a future weekly email when it is opening for
parents again.
Movember
Movember was a big
success! We raised $715.00 for prostate cancer research and raised awareness
about this very common type of cancer. Students were asked to guess as to which
teacher was displayed sporting very spiffy mustaches. Prizes were awarded to two
students from grades 7-9, two students from k-4 and two students from 5-6.
Congratulations to our winners and to Elboya for raising such a substantial
amount of money! Thank you.
Library Learning
Commons Club
We are starting a new
student club in our Library Learning Commons. If your son or daughter has an
interest in learning more about how a Learning Commons functions and
participating in brainstorming ideas, providing student voice and completing
some easy tasks, we would love to have them! Organizational meetings will be
Tuesdays at lunch (12:35) in the learning commons. See Mrs. Hansen for more
information.
Artist in
Residence
Elboya School is
excited to welcome back Soundkreations Inc. to lead our students in an
exploration into the world of hip hop dance. Their enthusiastic and professional
instructors will work with our Grade 6-9 students from December 12-18th and our
Kindergarten-Grade 5 students from January 6-14th. We would like to acknowledge
the Alberta Foundation for the Arts and our Elboya Parent Council for making
this Artist in Residence experience possible for our students.
Woodworking Request
to Parents
A special request
from M. DeNault and the Wood Working students: Anyone that has old mustard
bottles (the spiral twist cap type) could you send them to school cleaned. We
are always looking for new/replacement glue bottles and this work great. Many
thanks! M. DeNault
